Wesley, I've tried several things with these sheets. In smaller classes, we will actually do them as a "quiz"; prove to me that you can do it, on the spot, without notes, and I'll stamp it. The Ss work on collecting stamps throughout the unit, and then turn it in at the end as an assessment. Honestly, though, I struggle with making this happen regularly in my classes that have 32+ students in them. Another tactic is to have Ss self-assess and peer assess based on the goals. Each day's lesson is directly tied to one or more of the goals, and we also use them as "mile markers" through the course of the unit by reviewing which goals we've addressed in class. Also, each unit's summative assessment requires Ss to combine several of the goals to complete the performance tasks.

This is such an awesome resource! What exactly happens when your students 'prove their proficiency'?
